Ibiza — Instagram Star Demi Rose Mawby Resurfaces After Vanishing

British model Demi Rose Mawby, who built nearly 18 million Instagram followers before going quiet in early 2023, is now living a low-profile life in a small Ibiza village, caring for stray cats and practicing yoga and meditation, according to the New York Post, which cited reporting from the Daily Mail.

Mawby, 31, has not vanished from the island that made her famous. She has simply moved from the party circuit to Santa Gertrudis, a village the Post describes as sleepy and bohemian, a sharp contrast to Ibiza's reputation for nightclubs and drug culture.

Who Is Demi Rose Mawby?

Mawby got her start on MySpace before building a modeling career that included spreads in men's magazines such as FHM and Nuts, the Post reported. She later became one of social media's first major success stories, amassing a following of roughly 18 million on Instagram at a time when platform fame was not yet seen as a viable career, according to the outlet. She also worked as an OnlyFans creator, the Post reported.

Her feed, built on photos taken against backdrops around the world, made her one of what the Post calls Instagram's original "It Girls."

Why Did She Stop Posting in 2023?

Mawby's posting stopped abruptly in early 2023, the Post reported, a halt it describes as sudden and inexplicable to the millions who followed her. The silence fueled concern and conspiracy theories among her remaining fan base about where she had gone, according to the outlet.

The Post reported that Mawby's motivation for stepping back involved what the outlet called a heart-wrenching loss, though she has not personally detailed the circumstances publicly. A tarot card reader who keeps company with her told the Daily Mail, as cited by the Post, that Mawby is "not ready to talk about her time offline."

What Does Her Life Look Like Now?

Mawby remains in Ibiza, but her daily routine has shifted away from the image-driven lifestyle that made her famous, according to the Post. She now spends her time on yoga and meditation and working with local animal shelters to place stray and feral cats with new homes, the outlet reported.

Her closest companions, per the Post's reporting, are the feral cats she helps care for in and around Santa Gertrudis, rather than the global audience she once posted for daily.

What Role Do the Cats and the Tarot Reader Play?

The cats are described as a central part of Mawby's offline routine, with her shelter work forming a consistent thread in the Daily Mail's account as relayed by the Post. The tarot reader quoted by the outlet is identified only by that role, not by name, and serves as one of the few people speaking publicly, however briefly, about Mawby's current state of mind.

Beyond the one line about Mawby not being ready to discuss her time away, no further detail from that source was included in the Post's report.

By the Numbers

• Nearly 18 million followers: the size of Mawby's Instagram audience at the height of her visibility, according to the Post.
• Early 2023: when Mawby's posting stopped, according to the outlet.
• 31: Mawby's current age, as reported by the Post.

"Not ready to talk about her time offline."

That line, attributed by the Daily Mail to a tarot card reader who spends time with Mawby and relayed by the Post, is the only direct characterization of her mindset included in the reporting.

What Happens Next for Mawby's Public Profile?

The Post's report does not indicate whether Mawby plans to return to regular posting or address her absence directly. Her social media accounts remain associated with the identity she built over more than a decade, but her current activity, as described in the reporting, centers on animal welfare work rather than content production.

No timeline for any public statement from Mawby herself was included in the available reporting. The Daily Mail's original account, as cited by the Post, frames her current chapter as a deliberate retreat from the image-based career that first made her a household name among Instagram's earliest wave of influencers.

For now, the publicly available account of her life comes secondhand, through outlets citing people close to her rather than through Mawby's own statements.
