Atlanta — Dream's WNBA Finals Home-Game Venue Still Unresolved

The Atlanta Dream had not identified a venue for their three scheduled WNBA Finals home games as of Sunday night, with the series opener five games — and the team's own first Game 3 date — just over a week away, according to ESPN.
What's the scheduling conflict?
The Dream are set to host Games 3, 4 and 6 (if necessary) of the best-of-seven series against the Golden State Valkyries on Oct. 22, 24 and 29, ESPN reported. State Farm Arena in downtown Atlanta — the building the Dream used for five regular-season games and all three home playoff games this year, and which will become their full-time home next season — is unavailable on all three dates. A Sombr concert is booked for Oct. 22, and the Atlanta Hawks have regular-season games scheduled on Oct. 24 and 29, per ESPN.
How big is the capacity gap?
The Dream's listed home arena since 2021, Gateway Center Arena at College Park, holds 3,500 fans. State Farm Arena holds 17,044. The Valkyries' home building, Chase Center in San Francisco, holds 18,064 and faces no such conflict — the team will host Games 1, 2, and 5 and 7 if necessary, ESPN reported.
Capacity by venue
- Gateway Center Arena (Dream's default venue): 3,500
- State Farm Arena (Dream's playoff venue, booked for other events): 17,044
- Chase Center (Valkyries' Finals home, no conflict): 18,064
What has the team said?
Dream president and chief operating officer Morgan Shaw Parker told reporters last week the organization was "finalizing details on their home venue and where we will be playing" for the Finals, according to ESPN. Neither the Dream nor the WNBA provided additional details when ESPN contacted them Sunday.
Why isn't Gateway Center the default answer?
ESPN's reporting frames the 3,500-seat Gateway Center as a "concern" for Finals-level demand without ruling it out, but does not report that the Dream have confirmed it as the fallback site. The team's pattern this season — relocating five regular-season games and all three playoff home games to the larger State Farm Arena — points to a stated preference for the bigger building that the scheduling conflict now complicates.
When does the series start, and when is a decision needed?
- Games 1 and 2: Chase Center, San Francisco (dates per league schedule)
- Game 3: Oct. 22 — Dream home venue undetermined
- Game 4: Oct. 24 — Dream home venue undetermined
- Game 5 (if necessary): Chase Center
- Game 6 (if necessary): Oct. 29 — Dream home venue undetermined
- Game 7 (if necessary): Chase Center
The Dream reached the Finals for the first time since 2013 after sweeping the New York Liberty, ESPN reported, putting a hard deadline on the venue question with Game 3 roughly ten days away as of Sunday's report.
Teams in both conference finals and the championship series typically confirm arena logistics well before ticketing opens; the Dream's situation leaves fans without a confirmed location, date-specific ticket sale, or capacity figure for three of the series' potential seven games.
